Background
This workshop is an APEC-funded project being implemented through the APEC ATCWG and organized by Chinese Taipei and co-sponsored by Malaysia and New Zealand.
Implementing new technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Information and Communication Technology (ICT), and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), have the potential to enhance agricultural efficiency, reduce farmers’ workload, and improve manpower shortages. With such front-end smart agricultural systems, farmers may gain better control over the crops and animals growing process, enhance the production efficiency and quantity, and the increasing demand for food from the growing population can therefore be achieved.
This workshop aims to serve as a platform for both public and private sectors of APEC economies. Experience and expertise on developing and promoting smart agricultural systems to advance agricultural production as well as to safeguard the environment and food security will be shared. It will highlight on how smart agriculture can play an important role in reinvigorating the economy in the APEC region. It will include trends and prospects of smart agriculture research and development (R&D) and application, the development and application of Internet of Things (IOT) and automatic sensors, AI on intelligent image recognition, UAV and assistive devices in agriculture, the introduction of smart agricultural application and promotion methods and its related cases, and best practices of ensuring women to have equal access to affordable inputs and improved technologies of smart agriculture.
Workshop Format
